Bright fields, a turquoise sky, orange hills. Andriana hacked at the second canvas with a steel cleaver, and the cuts and peeled-back flaps of fabric stayed on it like wounds.
The land is free, and this freedom carries scars.
About the series
Five diptychs from 2024. Each has two canvases: one is left intact, and Andriana damaged the other with a real instrument of destruction: a shotgun, fire, a cleaver, a hammer or a knife. The series grew out of the experience of war and is a reminder that everything can change in an instant. It has been shown at the European Parliament, the Design Museum of Barcelona and Lviv railway station.
