The first canvas shows a quiet night horizon: dark water, a pink sky and a yellow patch of light. Andriana shot the second half of the diptych with a 12-gauge Core “People's Shotgun”, and the pellet marks scattered across the paint.
Night opens the Contrasts series. The calm is made with paint, and the alarm with a real weapon.
About the series
Five diptychs from 2024. Each has two canvases: one is left intact, and Andriana damaged the other with a real instrument of destruction: a shotgun, fire, a cleaver, a hammer or a knife. The series grew out of the experience of war and is a reminder that everything can change in an instant. It has been shown at the European Parliament, the Design Museum of Barcelona and Lviv railway station.
